Women's Health
Are you a woman age 21-64? If so, you may qualify for our Care for Yourself program. This program allows uninsured or under-insured women to be screened for breast and cervical cancer.
Now is the most important time for mammograms and pap tests. Through our Care for Yourself program, you may qualify for these screenings at no cost to you.

Services
Health Education/Promotion
Our nurses and staff provide educational workshops to organizations and businesses in Appanoose county. We also provide general education and resource/referral information to the community.
IDSS
Iowa Administrative Code 641-1.3(139) stipulates that healthcare provider must immediately report any unusual syndromes or uncommon diseases. IDSS stands for Iowa Disease Surveillance System. Public health is notified by the state of any cases in Appanoose County and must complete a thorough investigation. The purposes of infectious disease surveillance are to interrupt transmission of disease to susceptible persons and to reduce morbidity and mortality through: Timely reporting, Identification and investigation of individual cases and outbreaks, and Interpretation of investigative data and dissemination of findings.
VFC
Vaccines for Children (VFC) is a program to allow Appanoose County Public Health to provide vaccines at no cost to those children whom do not have the resources to obtain it elsewhere. To be eligible the child must be 18 and under and qualify for Medicaid, uninsured, American Indian or Alaskan Native, or underinsured.
School/Licensed Day Care Immunization Audit
In accordance with the Iowa Administrative Code 641-7.1(139A), Appanoose County Public Health completes annual immunization audits of all the schools and licensed childcare centers in the county. This requires verification that each student/child enrolled has the required immunization documentation required by the State of Iowa.
Influenza Vaccine Clinics
We provide opportunities to receive annual Influenza vaccines at our office and in the community. We also conduct flu clinics at different workplaces within the county. We provide Influenza vaccines for VFC-eligible children.
HeartSaver CPR
Appanoose County Public Health has instructors available to train the public on American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid, CPR, and AED. These courses can be offered in-person or with a virtual option that includes hands-on-skills practice and testing. In-person courses require the purchase of a student workbook and certificate of completion (optional).
Stop the Bleed
Appanoose County Public Health has instructors available to train individuals/groups on the American College of Surgeons’ Stop the Bleed program where you will gain the ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding and intervene effectively. This course is offered in-person and available at no charge.
